About the Craftsman
Chris Quinn has been interested in art, music, history and design since childhood. His earliest design lessons came from his father, an architect who worked with Buckminster Fuller in the 1960s. At age 16, Quinn joined the U.S. Merchant Marine and sailed for 9 years to ports from New Orleans and Dubai to Sri Lanka and more. On return he studied English and Italian at UNC-Chapel Hill and NC State, and worked in the book trade for many years.
From 1994 to 1996, Quinn completed a copy/study program of old master painters at the Louvre Museum in Paris. He gained a unique and personal knowledge of Renaissance craftsmanship that influences his aesthetic sensibility. Several years ago, Quinn began restoring antique furniture, which increased his interest in woodwork. His other current projects include picture frames, drawing boxes and Savonarola-style cradles.
